Toddler play activities with conkers

We went looking for conkers.

First, it was fun to throw them around and roll them off the table. He enjoyed burying them in the couch and finding……most of them.

Second, he put them into groups and tried to hold as many as he could in each hand.

Third, what’s it like to lie on conkers?

Fourth, What’s that there? Hello Conker?

Fifth, he enjoyed lining them up in long rows.

Sensory play at its best- totally unstructured and full of investigation. Nature has so many little treats like this at this time of year from acorns, nuts to seeds and leaves.

Gather a bunch up with no agenda but to let your toddler have fun investigating and playing.

What do you bring inside as a play item at this time of year?

  1. Lovely to see these photos of your little one contemplating conkers. You know we love them too – both B & L have taken their conker weavings into class and now everyone wants to make one! Maybe you’ll come and link up with the Play Academy this Friday? Cathy x

  2. We haven’t collected conkers yet this year but I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about our counting games with them – the favourite being when we took it in turns to throw a dice and collect that many conkers and then the one with the most conkers at the end won.
