What are your must have toys or equipment for your play lifestyle?

I have a baby who is 14months. Here are some of his favourites right now on his ‘must play’ list. Things that keep him happy. Things he tries to find, wherever you try to hide them. Things he gives up bought toys for in a heartbeat. Things we use together or supervised.

  • Empty containers with lids
  • Natural objects changed according to the season, shopping list and state. ( currently wooden spoon, leaves, kiwi, stones and head of a sunflower)
  • Blocks especially the cuboids and cubes. We’ve put away most of the cylinders, triangled ones etc
  • Book of colours, book of rhymes, book to touch and feel and a pop up book to do with mummy or daddy.
  • Wooden spoon, various sizes
  • Odd sock and odd glove
  • Ball of wool
  • Nuby balls for those teeth and to roll
  • cups in various sizes, shapes and colours
  • Filled empty bottles with coloured liquid or glitter with a little mineral oil and water.
  • Yogurt or pudding to play with in his high chair
  • Songs that calm, songs that you can sing along.

To have the play lifestyle what do you look out for your baby to use? Share your baby equipment that you use from everyday objects at home. Baby to 18months.

my son is 12 m.o. he likes some of the things on your list especially empty containers with lids and also magnets on the fridge, things hidden in the saucepan, the nesting measuring cups and an old baby formula container to put things into.

Thanks for additions. The fridge is a big magnet for mine lol as well. He loves to pull everything off and down. Nice and simple science experiments you did today on your blog.

I have a 15 month old who has just discovered the song “ten in a bed”. He likes to sing the roll over bit by himself.

I’m quite glad as I was getting a little bit bored of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and “Row, Row, Row your boat.”

Nice to have a new song to sing!

That’s the perfect song for a group of kids. With a preschooler we hear funny variations of the ABC song all the time. Thanks for sharing. I like your nature study of owls.

Elli’s current favorites (at 13 months) are water bottles or gallon jugs, for drinking mind you! empty containers to put things in as well; bananas and yogurt; basketful of clean laundry (she likes the dirty laundry too but I try to get that washed first, lol).

I usually make dinner while she snacks and shower while she plays with laundry (they’re in the same room).

I love these suggestions. More for him to try. Thanks for sharing.
