Ping!
Yep that little brightness in the room is a light bulb moment of mine after I read the introduction to Steadymom‘s book on Simplemom. I have not read the book yet but after entering the competition at a chance of winning it. I added it to my wish list. ( You know cover all bases!)

Steady Days is about the journey toward intentional, professional motherhood. Before we became moms, many of us spent years getting our education and had further training in whatever job we held. After I had my first child, it occurred to me that I had no real training to prepare me for this highly important, all-consuming new role. I began to wonder what it would look like to apply the ideals of purpose, intention, and efficiency to my new job as a mama.

The interview struck a cord with me. I am very much a fiction reader. I didn’t understand the fun of non fiction. Non fiction was always work related so interesting but it wasn’t something I reach for to read at home. Through listening to others and talking with friends I began to see the worth and benefit of learning about new situations, discovering new ideas by reading non fiction. It helps expand my mind to things and people with amazing messages. This year I made a plan to read more non fiction.

Why because I want to be more intentional and professional about motherhood. Just like when I was working for pay I had dreams, goals and a vision.  To get the promotion or feel happiness at work there was a purpose and method all worked out to get there. Now as a mother what are my dreams, goals and vision. Does it change because I have a family? I’m an at home mum right now but what if I’m not? How I think about myself as a mother impacts what I do and how I behave around my children. In turn how I play and what play we experience.

I want to be intentional about raising my children and raising playful tots.

I can’t do it by myself.

I need help, support and knowledge. Here’s part of the knowledge bit.

Here’s my list

Steady Days is on my list too, and Playful Parenting, Keeping a Nature Journal, and The Happiness Project. We’ll have to see what I get to this year, I haven’t got a lot of money for books and my library is short on many of the ones I want to read.

Are you able to get inter library loans, Catherine? Often they can locate most things just takes a little time.

Your choices look interesting.I’ll have to look into them.
