Sensory playtime contest

***********************************************************************************

Sunday 16th December 2007: This contest is now closed. Winner will be chosen this week. Winner announced on Friday. Thanks

***********************************************************************************

So now you’ve read the articles and you’ve got all these ideas about Sensory play to do with your toddler and preschooler right?

Sensory play is one of those topics many parents know about but don’t do much about past the baby stage. I hope these articles have shown you that Sensory play is a lot of fun and a great learning and sharing opportunity that’s easy to do at home with your child under 5.

With that in mind , here is my first contest.

What you’ll win

Sensory garden dome

Contest prize picture

Easy-to-grow seeds and a self-contained terrarium let kids grow their own indoor garden…filled with plants that explore the 5 senses! The plastic dome comes with soil, labels for each plant and more…plus 5 exotic varieties of seeds, including herbs for taste, aloe for touch, eucalyptus for smell, a polka dot plant for sight and a rustling cabbage palm for sound! 9″ wide.

How to enter the contest?

  1. Read the 6 sensory play articles by Elaine Lambe. See related posts at the bottom of this post for direct links.
  2. What’s your favourite sensory play activity for children under 5?
  • Write the answer in the comments below for one entry.

Rules

Maximum of 6 possible entries available per person.

Collected entries will be collated and then picked by the big guy. Probably via his famous throw it up in the air method and try and catch a falling entry.

Contest open to US residents only and/or those with a valid US address for shipping. ( Yes to APO addresses)

Deadline is 10pm MST December 16th 2007

Entrants must use a valid email address when writing a comment, as this is the one I’ll use to contact you about your shipping address and to let you know you’ve won! No reply within 5 days and I’ll pick a new winner.

Please do not leave your email address in the main body of the comment. Don’t want you getting spammed now. Only I can see the email address.

Prize is new and unused. No cash alternative. Winner gets it shipped to them.

  3. Gravatar Arika Says:

Great contest and articles! I love the sight sense, especially this time of year for toddlers. With all the pretty lights and decorations I love to watch them marvel in it all! The look on my 2yo face is priceless when we plug up the tree and outdoor decorations. As we look and talk about all of them I know he’s learning so much.

Just the other day he came to me with his cup and let me know it was his “green” cup. He also knows that when the inflatable Santa Claus and Snowman in the yard are deflated they are sleeping. All because he can see they are lying down.

  4. Gravatar Brooke Says:

With my littlest, I like to look in the mirror while holding her.

  5. Gravatar Amber Says:

We are really big into touch in our house…and I have always made sure to buy lots of things with different textures for my daughter to play with. It’s amazing seeing her reaction to them.

  6. Gravatar Naomi Says:

I like the smelly walk! Terrible-sounding name, but a fun activity with kids of all ages to teach them to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings.

  7. Gravatar Amber Says:

I loved the idea of exploring different textures by Placing familiar items in a bag and having them reach in and feel them and guess what they are. Fabulous idea!

  8. Gravatar Bebemiqui Says:

I love having my kids help me cook…it gives them so much exposure to different tastes and smells.

  9. Gravatar Patti Says:

Love the Snap Beads. My daughter is just getting into fine motor skills and I could see her using her little finger to snap and unsnap as much as possible! My son would adore the Sensory dome. He helped plant a garden outside with out, but it wasn’t as involved as this would be.

  10. Gravatar Arika Says:

I’m putting in 2 more entries with my blog post here. Sensory Dome Contest

I like doing things with sound with my daughter. Playing the piano, listening to music, dancing, clapping along. Because of this, she’s really good at picking out syllables in words, and she’s only 3.

  16. Gravatar Jessica Says:

I love doing the feely games where they guess what items are by feeling them!

  17. Gravatar Becca Says:

My daughter’s favorite sensory toy right now is a flower toy by Lamaze that has different textures, sounds, and lights. And since she still sticks it in her mouth and sucks on it sometimes, I can only guess that she’s experiencing different tastes too!

  18. Gravatar Stephanie Says:

I love that little garden! I won’t enter since my children are all older.
I know that my children loved to play with any toy that was interactive, brightly colored and noisey! :)

I really like the idea of putting familar scents in front of them to see if they can identify them. My daughter loves to smell candles when we are in stores and we talk about the different scents, but this would be a great thing to do at home. I think we will try this one this afternoon.
