I am a big fan of Jack Prelutcky. Funny poems for first and second graders. For my preschool class, we use The Neighborhood Mother Goose, which is classic favorite rhymes with great multicultural city photographs to illustrate.

You're right Catherine. The Works have so many different types of poem in there, too many to mention. There's also a Blue book called Read Me first poems for younger readers for every day of the year ( Key stage 1) My 3 year old is loving the "I'm just going out for a moment" poem because he gets to say his favourite word.....why? I was looking for it and found it under his pillow. Aug 29.
I'll look out for the AA Milne book and add it to my wish list. Thanks.
Happy reading!

I love poems - I haven't read them much yet with my sons, but I should get to it. What jumps to mind that your havent mentioned are limericks. And of course, as a poetry book AA Milne When We Were Very Young and Now we are Six. Your post has been inspiring, thanks.
