My first “contributing writer” gig is up at Blissfully Domestic.

If you’ve not checked into Blissfully Domestic before you’ll see it has something for everyone. It’s split into various channels for green living, arts and crafts, books, family, fashion…… You name it. You’ll see it. I’m excited to be with a bunch of talented women who have some amazing websites.

This month at Blissfully Domestic I talk about 5 Overlooked Toddler play activities

Toddlers are fiercely independent but totally need us.This problem becomes the push pull of our lives. How much do we help and how much do we let them try for themselves?
From 12months to 24months we have a bundle of energy and emotion. They are walking, talking, into everything explorers. This time is one the most challenging times for play activities. The frustration lies in how we have planned a delicious play activity in this particular time frame and our toddler is just not having it. I think we’ve all been there trying to suss out what will work for the impulsive toddler.

I’m also excited to tell you I’m a contributing writer at Steady Mom. I talked about Jamie’s book here before and how her thoughts on professional and intentional parenting really resonated with me. I join a team of four other contributing writers.

Steady Mom is one of those resources, providing the ideas and inspiration mothers need to nurture our children and enjoy deeper relationships in our families.

Blog articles focus on four main topics: getting organized, retaining enthusiasm, learning together, and making memories.

This month at Steady Mom I talk about  How to Encourage Independent Toddler Play

Independent play isn’t always possible but is necessary. There are plenty of play activities we will do with our children that are driven by us for good reason.
Toddlers learn like we do through repetition, copying, trying things out and a chance to exercise their imagination. Toddlers are inquisitive and seem primed to learn and discover all the time.

Toddlers are also attracted to everyday objects and what is around them. Haven’t you ever bought a toy, only to find your little one prefers the box or wrapping paper? Luckily there are plenty of opportunities in your home to use everyday objects to encourage play in your little ones.
